Quick answer
Use tip 2D for deep drop flowers and tall swirls. Our free sheets use it for 3 strokes on the drop flowers sheet: drop flowers (18 mm), with the bag held straight up.
Tip 2D is a closed star tip for deep drop flowers and tall swirls. On our drop flower sheet it makes a whole flower in one move: hold the bag straight up, squeeze while you give a quarter twist, stop, then lift.
Twist the same way and the same amount each time so the petals line up from one flower to the next. The sheet has two rows of flowers and a ring with one more in the centre; matching sizes come from matching squeeze lengths.
The rhythm and bag angle our sheets use for each shape, in the order you squeeze.
Hold the bag straight up, squeeze while you give a quarter twist, stop, then lift. Hold the bag at 90 degrees, straight up.
Each template on our sheets is drawn as wide as the icing should be. For tip 2D, that is about:
| Technique | Bead or unit size on our sheets |
|---|---|
| drop flowers | about 18 mm |
Your bead can come out a little bigger or smaller depending on your icing and how hard you squeeze. The score checks that it stays even and on the template.
You need tip 2D on 2 of the 30 days in the 30-day piping challenge:
